Influence of Tool–Base Metal Interference on the Performance of an Aluminium–Magnesium Alloy Joined via Bobbin Tool Friction Stir Welding

چکیده

Bobbin tool friction stir welding (BTFSW) is a variant of the FSW process which uses special two-shoulder that forms top and bottom weld surface. As such, significant simplification setup achieved. One dominant parameters BTFSW interference between shoulder pinch gap metal thickness. In this research, influence square pin with convex shoulders on temperature, microstructure, tensile, impact, bend performance were studied, appropriate correlations devised. The base was an aluminum–magnesium alloy in varied range 0.1 to 0.5 mm. Wormhole defects irregularities found all specimens except specimen welded 0.4 mm interference. An optimal resulted best mechanical properties, which, terms tensile strength reduction area, similar metal. Furthermore, impact significantly higher, attributed grain refinement effect nugget zone.

Analysis and Comparison of Friction Stir Welding and Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloy

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process; i.e., no melting occurs. The welding process is promoted by the rotation and translation of an axis-symmetric non-consumable tool along the weld centerline. Thus, the FSW process is performed at much lower temperatures than conventional fusion welding, nevertheless it has some disadvantages. Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding (LAFS...

Optimization of Friction Stir Welding Tool Advance Speed via Monte-Carlo Simulation of the Friction Stir Welding Process

Recognition of the friction stir welding process is growing in the aeronautical and aero-space industries. To make the process more available to the structural fabrication industry (buildings and bridges), being able to model the process to determine the highest speed of advance possible that will not cause unwanted welding defects is desirable. A numerical solution to the transient two-dimensi...

The Effect of Tool Geometry on Material Flow Behavior of Friction Stir Welding of Titanium Alloy

Article history: Received 1.11.2012 Received in revised form 10.12.2012 Accepted 10.12.2012 Based on the RNG k-ε model, the finite volume model of friction stir welding of Ti6Al4V alloy is established by ANSYS FLUENT software. The effect of rotational tool geometry on titanium alloy flow behaviour is exhibited. The results of numerical simulation show that the flow direction of material near th...
